Mark Ruffalo over zijn rol als Hulk

Entertainment Weekly had een interview met Mark Ruffalo, waarin hij voor het eerst ingaat op het feit dat hij de rol overneemt na wat frictie (understatement) tussen Marvel en Edward Norton.

Ruffalo had het eerst over de Hulk als personage;

He’s a guy struggling with two sides of himself — the dark and the light — and everything he does in his life is filtered through issues of control. I grew up on the Bill Bixby TV series, which I thought was a really nuanced and real human way to look at The Hulk. I like that the part has those qualities.

En daarna kwam naar boven dat Ed Norton en hij niet alleen collega's zijn, wat de situatie volgens mij nogal awkward zou moeten maken. Dat is niet zo;

I’m a friend of Ed’s, and yeah, that wasn’t a great way for all that to go down. But the way I see it is that Ed has bequeathed this part to me. I look at it as my generation’s Hamlet.

Hamlet is misschien een beetje overdreven, maar de Hulk is in de basis wel een personage met veel diepgang. De vraag is alleen of mensen daarop zitten te wachten. Daarom vond ik The Incredible Hulk ook zo goed gelukt. Hoe dan ook, de opnames van The Avengers beginnen volgens Ruffalo ergens in de winter van dit jaar.
